n a gesture of solidarity, a group of senior high school students held a charity fashion show on Sunday in Jakarta to give children with cancer their moment in the limelight while raising funds to support their cause.

Students from Mentari Intercultural School, in coordination with Rumah Harapan Indonesia (RHI, house of hope), hosted the Patterns of Hope event at a restaurant in South Jakarta. The event started with musical performances and culminated in a fashion show, which featured both models and children with cancer presenting batik creations on the runway.

Cheinya Amir, the head of the organizing committee, said the event aimed to give hope to children with cancer across the nation.

“[We want to] convey the message that children’s enthusiasm and hope can never be broken. Where there is hope, achievement will surely follow. Everyone has hope for the future,” Cheinya Amir said in a video statement.

Her deputy, Nadya Fahrani, said the student group partnered with RHI, a Jakarta-based social service organization that helps disadvantaged children with various illnesses, to raise awareness and money to help children with cancer.

“We believe that our support is crucial to help them overcome the challenges. [Through the event], we hope to let the children know that they are not alone in their battles,” Nadya said.
