IndiHome to accelerate progress in Ambon

span class="inline inline-left">Broadband_ReadyThe availability of IndiHome in Ambon is expected to boost development in the city. With great potential to offer, Ambon '€“ and indeed Maluku province '€“ will be easier to market. Through IndiHome '€“ with its up-to 100Mbps speed '€“ the people of Ambon now have the same opportunities as other regions to expand.

PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom) already offers IndiHome Triple Play with 100% fiber in Ambon city and eastern Indonesia. This IndiHome Triple Play service includes landline phone, Internet on fiber or high speed Internet, and Usee TV Cable (IPTV) 99 channel.

But the most important thing is the availability of IndiHome in Ambon will surely open up many opportunities in Maluku province and especially in Ambon. The prospering fisheries industry can expand more since the marketing process will be supported by reliable high speed Internet access.

IndiHome uses Fiber to the Home (FTTH) technology for its high speed Internet that suits the public'€™s needs. Ambon, as one of the most important cities in Maluku, is the highest priority in deploying IndiHome with FTTH.

Up to the end of March, at least 20 percent of Ambon was already covered by IndiHome. This also included 20 harbor areas in Ambon. This year, Telkom will expand its IndiHome Fiber services coverage to business and residential areas.

IndiHome Fiber has Triple Pay services with many benefits such as, high speed Internet with up 100Mbps that can transfer data in a very short time and landline phone with clear voice quality that also gives 1,000 minutes of free local or long-distance calls each month.

IndiHome customers will also benefit from the UseeTV Cable 99 channel, which is an interactive television technology based on Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) with lots of sophisticated features such as TV on demand, video on demand, pause and rewind, and also recording capabilities. One of the most distinguished features is '€˜TV on demand'€™ that can re-run a TV show that has been broadcast up to seven days before.

To support the expansion of IndiHome, Telkom is actively deploying its fiber optic network cables to replace its entire copper cable network that cannot support the high bandwidth needs for high speed Internet, which is the foundation of IndiHome services.

All of the already deployed copper cables will be replaced with fiber optic as copper cable has many disadvantages, such as is it is highly corrosive and can only provide 5Mbps bandwidth while fiber can easily reach 100 or even 200Mbps.

The deployment of IndiHome in Ambon is interconnected with Telkom'€™s bigger plan to deploy fiber optic infrastructure in eastern Indonesia. Telkom has allocated no less than Rp 1.7 billion to successfully deploy its fiber optic infrastructure from Maluku to Papua.

According to plans, this submarine cable infrastructure  will be ready to operate this year, so it is anticipated that this will help increase the accessibility of broadband services in eastern Indonesia, which will ultimately increase the competitiveness of people in eastern Indonesia.

This project is called the Sulawesi Maluku Papua Cable System (SMPCS) and is being undertaken by Alcatel Submarine Network (ASN) and NEX Corporation. The network cable system comprises three main routes extending from Manado '€“ Ambon '€“ Fakfak '€“ Timika, Manado '€“ Sorong '€“ Biak '€“ Jayapura, and Ambon '€“ Kendari. It also has 13 network branches that cover Jailolo, Ternate, Labuha, Sorong, Mangole, Sanana, Namlea, Masohi, Banda Neira, Bula, Manokwari, Sarmi and Kaimana.

By optimizing Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM), SMPCS can support a wide network with bandwidth capacity of 32x100 Gigabits per fiber pair. SMPCS is also part of the Indonesia Digital Network (IDN) infrastructure network project that will connect all regions in the archipelago from Aceh to Papua. IDN is one of Telkom'€™s initiatives to accelerate development in Indonesia through Information and Communications Technology (ICT) infrastructure, especially in eastern Indonesia.
