tate-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II (AP II) is supporting the biggest sports event in Asia by providing the best facilities for travelers at its airports in Jakarta, Palembang, South Sumatra, and Bandung, West Java, highlighting the 2018 Asian Games spirit to boost their enthusiasm for the upcoming event.
As one of Indonesia’s biggest state-owned enterprises, AP II is the 2018 Asian Games’ Official Supplier and is fully supporting the three-week competition from Aug. 18 to Sept. 2 in Jakarta and Palembang.
First and foremost, AP II has finished all Asiad preparations at the three airports –Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten, Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II International Airport in Palembang and Husein Sastranegara International Airport in Bandung – where athletes from all participating Asian countries will arrive in Indonesia to join the region’s biggest sports extravaganza. International sports officials, supporters and journalists will also arrive through the three hub airports to join the Asiad in Indonesia.
AP II has developed the ACTIF concept, which stands for airport capacity, communications, traffic routes, infrastructure and facilities, in upgrading the five key elements at the three airports to accommodate the arrivals and departures of Asiad delegates.
These five elements are broken down further into technical and operational aspects: airport capacity is boosted to serve the sports delegations; communications has raised general awareness on traveling through the three airports to the upcoming Games; and traffic routes have been designed to support airlines and travel agencies in promoting Indonesian destinations to international delegates throughout the Games.
Infrastructure has been upgraded to cater to the increased arrivals and departures that are expected during the competition. AP II has digitalized the operations of interrelated facilities to serve passengers more efficiently.
As Indonesia gears up to welcome the Asiad delegates, AP II has checked all preparations in the necessary infrastructure and facilities to guarantee their hassle-free travel, so athletes, officials and supporters can all relax and enjoy their stay in Indonesia and depart with good memories.
As part of the communications aspect of its ACTIF endeavor, AP II is also helping to promote the event among all travelers at the three hub airports through various event activation programs, including decorating the airports with 2018 Asian Games banners and mascots from their entrance gates to their waiting lounges.
AP II has also transformed the airport terminals into sports amusement zones, where travelers can enjoy a variety of exciting activities while waiting for their flights, like painting mural, handicrafts, mini sports and performances that showcase Asia’s rich culture.
The mini sports activities include soccer, billiards and table tennis on small-scale fields and courts to pass the time before boarding your plane.
“As a state-owned enterprise, we position ourselves as a part of Indonesia that is continuously passionate about serving our customers. Therefore, besides boosting our service quality, we would also like to promote the Asian Games 2018 to the general public traveling through the airportsp to turn the event into a success,” AP II president director Muhammad Awaluddin said.
AP II’s efforts to increase awareness of the Games and to engage people in a unified spirit for the upcoming multi-sport event also extended to Banyuwangi regency, East Java. There, on July 22, AP II engaged thousands of local residents in a fun walk across the regency along with the torchbearers, who have carried the eternal Asian Games flame from India to Indonesia and across the archipelago. The Asiad torchbearers passed through Banyuwangi on July 22 on their way to the country’s easternmost province of Papua.
Mobile app
The highlight of AP II’s preparations to serve passengers during the Games is a smartphone app called INDONESIA AIRPORTS, which allows all users to access real-time information on the Games. The app can be downloaded from Play Store for Android phones and the App Store for iOS.
The app features several Asiad-themed menus, such as cinema, aeroplay, sports, participants, live score, athlete details, news and videos.
“Besides enlivening the event in terms of physical infrastructure, we have also endeavored to support the 2018 Asian Games digitally through the exclusive and dedicated mobile app, INDONESIAN AIRPORTS, with special features to serve all users,” said Muhammad.
“Through the app, users can access not only information on airport services, but also all other information related to the 2018Asian Games, like the athlete bios and country of origin, their sports discipline, news videos and scores updated in real time,” he said.
