o welcome Christmas and the New Year, Jakarta’s theme park Dunia Fantasi, popularly known as Dufan, has launched a new horror-themed roller coaster called Kereta Misteri.
The opening of the haunted coaster on Dec. 21 has added to the list of rides and fun attractions at the Jakarta seafront tourist destination following the opening of Cartoon World in June.
The indoor roller coaster, which covers 5,500 square m, is ready to pump up the riders’ adrenaline along its 596-meter track that reaches heights of 15 m.
Located inside Taman Impian Jaya Ancol, Dufan is Jakarta's own theme park complete with more than 40 rides and attractions. The theme park is divided into eight regions: Jakarta, Indonesia, Asia, Africa, America, Europe and Fantasi Hikayat (Legendary Fantasy) featuring Ancient Greece and Ancient Egyptian architecture.
Among its most popular attractions are the Halilintar roller coaster, the Niagara-gara log flume ride, Istana Boneka (a local version of Disney's It's a Small World) and the Balada Kera (Monkey Parody) Theater animatronics show. Other attractions include the Bianglala Ferris wheel, the Kora-Kora swinging ship, the Poci-Poci spinning cup ride and the Hysteria drop tower.
Other rides include Kicir-Kicir (Power Surge), Perang Bintang (Star Wars), Meteor Attack and the Tornado Windshear by Zamperla. Seasonal attractions include the Le Belles cabaret show, Russian Circus and Euro Kids Circus.
Kereta Misteri is among nine new attractions opened this year alongside Baling (the first Zierer Star Shape in Asia), Paralayang (an SBF Visa Group Airborne Shot), Turbo Drop (an SBF Visa Group Drop 'n Twist), the New Fantastique live show, Karavel, Kolibri, Zig Zag and Ontang Anting.
The Kereta Misteri has three coaches consisting of five cars each. With each car able to fit four passengers, the ride has a capacity for 60 passengers and hits a top speech of 64 kilometers per hour.
The trip into the darkness features a tale about a werewolves attack with passengers playfully brought into the story to help chase off the monsters.
Teuku Sahir Syahali, the president director of PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol – the company that manages Taman Impian Jaya Ancol – said the launch of Kereta Misteri was part of the company’s commitment to providing visitors to Ancol with new and innovative amusements.
“We hope the launch of new recreational sites including Cartoon World with its seven attractions including Asthatirta, Istana Penguin, Shark Feeding Show and Kereta Misteri will boost visitor numbers and increase the company’s revenue” Sahir said during the launch.
Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan applauded Ancol’s contribution to helping make Jakarta a tourist popular destination like Bali and expressed hopes the new attractions would attract more tourists to the city.
