T LG Electronics Indonesia (LG) is introducing the F2720SVRV, a washing machine with a capacity of 20 kilograms. The front loading washing machine has an anti-allergy cycle that uses LG Steam™ and artificial intelligence (AI) to better protect your laundry.

The use of steam in anti-allergen features is nothing new. What makes LG Steam™ special is its ability to produce and preserve high-temperature steam during washing cycles at 60 degrees Celsius. The washing machine’s ability to retain a high temperature is crucial for eliminating fine dust particles, mites and other allergenic materials.

“Our LG washing machine has gained recognition from the British Allergy Foundation [BAF] that declared it 99.9 percent effective in removing mites and other allergens,” said Kris Lee, product marketing director of home appliances at LG Electronics Indonesia.

Products certified by the BAF are identifiable through a logo plastered onto the product. Indonesia is one of the 135 countries that accept BAF’s standards.

Its 20 kg capacity is not the F2720SVRV’s only selling point. It comes with a sophisticated artificial intelligence direct drive (AI DD) that can detect the total weight of a laundry load while categorizing the clothes by textile characteristics.

The sensor’s sensitivity sources its data from 20,000 databases during washing cycles. When loading laundry, a user can activate the sensor by pressing a button that prompts the machine to slowly rotate while giving the sensor time to distinguish textiles through the resulting microwaves.

LG developed its AI-based sensor after observing customers expressing dissatisfaction with conventional washing machines. By only distinguishing the weight and not the textile characteristics, traditional washing machines cannot suit their washing cycles for different articles of clothes with the same basic material.

“Let’s take a look at shirts and pants, for example. Even if they’re both made of cotton, they have different levels of softness that will require different methods of washing. Our model’s multileveled sensitivity is what makes it better at handling different materials,” said Rumbi Simanjuntak, the head of product marketing for home appliances at LG Electronics Indonesia.

The F2720SVRV comes equipped with the LG ThinQ™ platform, which LG developed for Android and Apple smartphones. By connecting to WiFi, users can control their washing machine through a menu on their smartphone, and it enables users to select and activate or deactivate a washing cycle freely.

An upgraded capacity does not mean the F2720SVRV will require an extended washing time. LG developed the TurboWash™ feature to reduce washing time without sacrificing performance. When a cycle starts, the washing machine will rotate its tube and pulsator in opposing directions. This unique mechanism produces a more robust squeezing motion aside from creating a more powerful wave that thoroughly mixes the detergent.

The TurboWash™ feature only requires 49 minutes to complete one washing cycle.

“This is the combination that makes it suitable for families — a bigger volume to store all that family-sized laundry while TurboWash™ cuts down on cycle periods, giving you more time to spend with your family,” Rumbi added.

Meanwhile, Kris predicted that the silver, stainless steel washing machine would receive a positive response from the market.

“For us, this is the solution for today’s problems, when customers are expecting more from their washing machines. More thorough cleaning, better care for their clothing and an optimized capacity.”

The F2720SVRV will be available in electronic stores across Indonesia at a starting price of Rp 18 million (US$1,255).
