Former North Sumatra governor Edy Rahmayadi is looking to gain support from the PDI-P in his bid to return to the position of North Sumatra governor.
ormer North Sumatra governor Edy Rahmayadi is looking to resume his gubernatorial stint in the province by trying to gain support from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) in the upcoming North Sumatra gubernatorial election.
"They [PDI-P] still need to assess my request," Edy said on Sunday in Medan, as quoted by Detik.
Edy served as North Sumatra governor from November 2018 to November 2023.
There was no immediate election because the central government decided to postpone all regional head elections ahead of the 2024 general election.
“I have opened communications with the PDI-P. You can call it pleading,” he said.
“If there are news reports saying the PDI-P is eyeing me, it is wrong. It is Edy who is eyeing up the PDI-P.”
Upon collecting registration forms to participate in the elections, Edy said he would personally submit them to the PDI-P sometime in late April or early May.
