Vaccines at government health facilities are legit: IDAI

he Indonesian Pediatrician Association (IDAI) has ensured parents that vaccines administered by IDAI come from valid sources. The vaccines given at health facilities, including community health centers (Puskesmas) and hospitals, are safe to use and may be obtained free-of-charge.
IDAI chairman Aman Bhakti Pulungan told Kompas that fake vaccines were not produced due to the unavailability of vaccines. Fake vaccines were produced purely for monetary gain. IDAI also encourages the community to report to the nearest pediatrician should anyone suspect their children were exposed to fake vaccines.

Health Surveillance and Quarantine director at the Health Ministry, Elizabeth Jane Soepardi, said there were no case reports on fake vaccines. Children below 5 years old vaccinated with fake vaccines will be observed and revaccinated using proper vaccines.
“The vaccines that were copied were the compulsory basic immunization set, which are free-of-charge and given at government health facilities. Private health facilities also get free vaccines from the public health office,” she said.

Following a fake vaccine case, the National Drug and Food Control Agency (BPOM) has inspected health facilities to trace the possibility of fake vaccine usage. The main targets are small private clinics that are not operating in cooperation with the Social Security Management Agency (BPJS). (asw)
