eteran Indonesian comedian Eko Koeswoyo, famously known as Eko DJ, passed away at 11 p.m. on Monday at his residence, Jalan Taman Malaka Selatan, Pondok Kelapa, East Jakarta. 

Fellow comedian from Srimulat troupe, Tarzan, confirmed Eko’s passing to kompas.com, “I was informed by his child that he passed away at his house,” he said.

Eko’s death was reportedly caused by heart and kidney failure.

According to Tarzan, Eko had been undergoing dialysis treatment that required him to go to Budhi Asih general hospital in Cawang several times per week. 

Eko’s funeral is being held at Pondok Kelapa cemetery on Tuesday, March 28.

Eko Koeswoyo was born in Malang, East Java, on Jan. 7, 1952, and was mostly known as a member of comedy troupe, Srimulat. His rise to television fame was propelled by his role as Pak Baroto on the comedy series Jinny oh Jinny in 1997. (asw)
