Following the trend of powerful female figures on screen comes the newest Netflix series, Girlboss.
Girlboss tells the real-life story of Nasty Gal founder Sophia Amoruso -- portrayed here by Britt Robertson -- and is based on the autobiography of the same name, which starts at the very beginning back when Amoruso scoured thrift stores for clothes to “flip” and sell on eBay, all the way to Nasty Gal’s founding.
Before this, Amoruso was confronted with negative reviews on eBay and declares, "I'll start my own site. Maybe it’ll work, maybe it won’t, but it’ll be mine.”
Nasty Gal, named “Fastest Growing Retailer” by INC Magazine in 2012, specializes in edgy and up-to-date fashion for young women, on an online-only platform based in Los Angeles.

Girlboss is backed by Charlize Theron, who is the executive producer, and Kay Cannon, who wrote Pitch Perfect, created the show.
Britt Robertson told Glamour earlier this month that being a "girlboss" meant taking ownership of what you wanted in life. "For me, [being a] girlboss is about being the boss of your own life. At 26 I still don’t know what’s happening in my life, but I’m asking: What will make me happy next?”
Girlboss hits Netflix on April 21. (sul/kes)
