What started out as a simple photo blog documenting the lives of New Yorkers is now being turned into a 12-part documentary.

Facebook announced through a blog post that it would adapt the popular “Humans of New York” (HONY) page into a half-hour mini-web series.

The man behind the lens, Brandon Stanton, is on board with the plan and has enlisted the aid of Oscar-nominated documentary producer Julie Goldman.

Building on what made the blog revered by netizens all over the world, “Humans of New York: The Series” will continue to document candid and unfiltered conversations with strangers on the streets of New York City.

“Early on I realized that video would add a deeper layer to Humans of New York. At the heart of all these posts are the conversations themselves,” Stanton wrote, following Facebook’s release of a teaser for the project.

Since 2010, Stanton has interviewed over 1,200 people and shared their unique and inspiring stories to millions of people online.

After seven years, the brilliant storyteller says “it’s a natural evolution to do some interviews on film.”

Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter notes that HONY will just be one of the myriads of similar projects that Facebook is funding for its “Watch video tab,” announced earlier this month.

Although Stanton has pretty much worked independently for this project, he credits the social platform for spreading his content.

“Facebook has had a huge role in the creation of Humans of New York,” he said.

Each episode of the “Humans of New York: The Series” will be shown weekly, starting this week. Check out the full trailer below.
