Blue Ivy Carter, the 6-year-old daughter of musical power couple Beyonce and Jay-Z, is making an early start as an art collector.
While attending the Wearable Art Gala with her parents, a live auction hosted by Beyonce's mother Tina Knowles Lawson and stepfather Richard Lawson, Blue Ivy bid US$17,000 on an acrylic painting of the actor Sidney Poitier.
The girl did not give up when the bid went up, bumping the price up to $19,000, according to Time.com, even after Jay-Z jokingly tried to stop his young daughter from bidding higher.

Despite her enthusiasm, however, Blue did not come home with the Sidney Poitier painting, reported Vanity Fair, with Tyler Perry acquiring the portrait for $20,000.

Blue Ivy then went on to bid on the next item, a 36-by-36-inch artwork of deconstructed law books from Indiana and medical books from California by artist Samuel Levi Jones, which Blue obtained for $10,000.
Saturday's gala event was held to benefit the WACO (Where Art Can Occur) Theater Center, an American arts community that provides teen mentorship programs, where individuals are encouraged to express themselves through theater and art. (liz/wng)
