hicago-based alternative rock band the Smashing Pumpkins have released a new song, the first written by founding members Billy Corgan, James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlin since 2000.
Bass player D'arcy Wretzky, meanwhile, was not involved in the song’s creation.
The last time the Smashing Pumpkins' original members performed together was in 1999, following the release of their fourth studio album Adore.
In 2016, Chamberlin reunited with Corgan for an acoustic tour and later that year, Iha joined the band's classic line-up.
The new song "Solara", produced by Rick Rubin, is a retread of the band's classic formula of raw guitar sounds, kinetic drumming and Corgan's trademarked nasal voice.
The reunited Smashing Pumpkins will embark on their North American tour on July 12 at Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona, in the United States.
The Smashing Pumpkins rose to fame at the height of the grunge era with their sophomore record Siamese Dreams released in 1993 and the double album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, out in 1995.
