The high-octane rockers Seringai will launch their new album, Seperti Api, on July 29.
After releasing a music video on July 5, Seringai will launch their new album, Seperti Api (Like Fire), on Sunday, July 29.
The band, which calls themselves high-octane rockers, had been in the studio since late last year and finished recording the album in early February.
Seperti Api will have 12 tracks, with themes ranging from independence, the 1965 tragedy, artificial intelligence to sexuality.
In a previous interview with The Jakarta Post, guitarist Ricky Siahaan said the album would feature hard-hitting lyrics on social and political issues. “In "Persetan" (Damn), for instance, we want to show our objections toward hate and bigotry,” he said earlier this month.
Pop-jazz singer Danilla will appear as a guest vocalist, a crossover in a downtempo song that Ricky said would be unlike anything Seringai had ever done. The album also features singers Kartika Jahja, Hendra Jaya Putra of electronic unit Rock N Roll Mafia and Dawny of ska band The Authentics, among others.

Seringai consists of vocalist Arian13, who is also the band’s lyricist and illustrator for the album’s artwork, Ricky, bassist Sammy Bramantyo and drummer Edy Khemod. The band has released two albums, Serigala Militia (2007) and Taring (2012). One of their biggest achievements was playing the opening act for heavy metal giant Metallica in a concert in Jakarta in 2003.
Seperti Api will be released in a CD box set that includes a copy of the CD, three stickers, one patch, two postcards and a poster. The regular CD will be available to order afterward.
The box set is available for preorder until Saturday on Seringai’s official webstore. The sets are also currently available to purchase at Lawless Jakarta in Kemang, South Jakarta, and Omuniuum on Jl. Ciumbuleuit, Bandung, West Java.
The single for the new album, “Selamanya”, depicts the band’s perseverance in the music scene. The music video features the band entertaining fans on a moving bus, ride after ride.
“During a discussion among the band members, we found that we haven’t written anything about how we’ve been as a band. We were inspired by the bands we look up to, such as Metallica and Neurosis, who keep producing albums with passion and consistency. We want to convey that in a song and the video, how after 16 years we are still here as a band and doing something that we love,” Ricky said.
