Sunday is the estimated time the giant corpse flower collected by Mekarsari Fruit Park will fully bloom.
he giant corpse flower, also known as titan arum, is rarely found, only once every seven to nine years. Fortunately, this early August a titan arum's bud was spotted on one of the dormant bulbs' collection of Mekarsari Fruit Park in Cileungsi, Bogor regency, West Java.
On Monday, the park's titan arum bud had reached 160 centimeters in height, according to kompas.com, and it grows quite fast as in only one day its height can increase another 10 cm. Sunday is the estimated time the flower will fully bloom.

The previous Guinness World Record for the tallest titan arum was 3.1 meters, which was located in Winnipesaukee Orchids in Gilford, New Hampshire, the United States, on June 18, 2010. Meanwhile, the world record for the heaviest titan arum bulb was held by for seven years by Edinburgh Botanic Garden in Scotland, the United Kingdom, at 153.9 kilograms.
Globally there are 198 species of Amorphophallus. Other than titan arum, Mekarsari Fruit Park also collects several other species of Amorphophallus, including suweg, Amorphophallus paeoniifolius, iles-iles (porang) and Amorphophallus muelleri.
