Afgan's charity birthday concert has raised fund to buy ventilators for hospitals across Indonesia.
inger Afgansyah Reza, better known as Afgan, has raised Rp 184 million (US$12,438) to buy ventilators for a number of hospitals across Indonesia.
Afgan raised the funds from donations through his birthday concert on Wednesday. Dubbed DISCOARANTINE, the concert was streamed live on his Instagram page. He performed a number of songs during the concert, including Oasis’ “Don’t Look Back in Anger” and Diskoria’s “Serenata Jiwa Lara” (Sad Soul Serenade).
“Thank you for those who have donated and wished me a happy birthday. Stay safe!” said Afgan during the event as quoted by kompas.com.

The fundraising is still open for donation on crowdfunding platform Kitabisa. As of the time of writing, Afgan has gathered Rp 185,087,347 of his target of Rp 1 billion.
“I have often consulted with experts, one of them is my friend Dr. Ryan R. Keswani, who works at the National Brain Center Hospital. He told me that numerous hospitals need ventilators for COVID-19 treatment,” wrote Afgan on the crowdfunding’s page, adding that the machine to help patients breathe reduced their risk of death.
“I hope the COVID-19 pandemic will subside soon,” said Afgan.
Afgan released his debut album, Confession No. 1, in 2008. The 31-year old singer has received numerous awards, including the 2012 Anugerah Musik Indonesia (AMI) Awards for Best Pop Male Solo and the 2018 Mnet Asian Music Award (MAMA) in the Best Asian Artist category. (wir/wng)
