In a meeting attended by all city mayors and relevant officials from Saturday night to early Sunday, Fauzi instructed them to carry out eight strategic measures to anticipate floods, city spokesman Arie Budhiman said.

"The first two measures are to make sure all the early warning systems are effective and dredge the rivers to enable the water to flow properly," he was quoted as saying by Antara.

The other measures include the immediate revitalization of the Pluit, Sunter and Riario dams, while his subordinates are to directly supervise officials in charge of efforts to handle flooding.

The governor, Arie added, also instructed the city to coordinate with the state power company to place mobile water pumps on the airport tollway since blackouts are expected.

The governor also expected to have damaged traffic lights repaired by Monday at the latest, he said.

The transportation agency was also asked to coordinate with the Jakarta Police and toll road operator PT Jasa Marga to prepare emergency routes for flooded areas.

"The coordination includes an effort to provide shuttle buses to airport," Arie said.

"Meanwhile, people are told to remain on alert and follow the existing procedures when they take refuge at crisis center posts."

Talking to the press after attending Nahdlatul Ulama's 62nd anniversary at Bung Karno Sports Hall on Sunday, Fauzi encouraged flood victims to take refuge at the prepared posts.

"Some of them have occupied railway sides, instead ... obstructing public transportation," he said.

A constant downpour from Thursday to Friday paralyzed Jakarta, with many businesses closing on Friday, while the airport was also shut for several hours.

Several railway lines were still disrupted as of Sunday due to landslides and inundated railroads.

Two buildings in Jakarta's Old Town were damaged, following the heavy floods.

A ceiling beam collapsed in a storage buildings the Maritime Museum complex early Sunday morning.

"The building is supposed to be renovated this year. We have proposed a Rp 4.1 billion budget to renovate it, but it has yet to be approved," museum executive Ida Subaedah said Sunday.

Meanwhile the building of shipping company PT Samudra Indonesia at Jl. Kopi, West Jakarta, collapsed on Friday afternoon. No-one was injured as the company had closed earlier due to the heavy floods.

Candrian Attahiyat, head of the heritage sites monitoring unit at the culture and museum agency, said that the damage to both buildings was caused by land subsidence, which was partly caused by the floods and high tides last November and December.

"The other buildings in the Maritime Museum are still safe for use. We will temporarily repair the beam by supporting it with columns. We will repair the whole building as soon as the budget for it is approved," he said.
