JAKARTA: Noted filmmaker Garin Nugroho has signed an agreement with ASTRO TV to produce several semi documentary films to mark the 100th anniversary of National Awakening Day.
"I praise ASTRO, which viewers have to subscribe to, for not merely thinking about ratings," he was quoted as saying by Antara before signing the deal at the Stovia building, in Central Jakarta.
He said as a public domain, television should make positive contributions through its programming.
Garin could not openly disclose details of the deal to the public.
However, he said his works included a series of 10 documentary films, which would be aired on ASTRO's news and information channel, and a 90-minute film, which would be aired on ASTRO's film channel.
"The programs will provide unique and diverse views on National Awakening Day. They're not produced in a formal, historic format, but through a more popular approach."
Garin said he would not be directly involved in directing the productions but would serve as a supervisor.
"The films will be produced by three female directors," he said without providing names. -- JP
