From all accounts, the world is about to plunge into recession. The U.S. is in trouble because of its financial institutions. When the U.S. sneezes the rest of the world gets sick. No one can predict the extent of the postulated financial downturn. We must all hope and pray it is just a cold and not the flu.
We should remember the conditions that prevailed in the 1930s following the Wall Street crash of 1929 that gave rise to the appeal of the Nurenburg rallies and the storm troopers. The appeal of the murderous fanatics now acting in the name of, and defiling, Islam is exactly the same. It is the same road that led to concentration camps, gas chambers, world conflict and even to the atomic bomb.
We do not want to destroy the spirit of Indonesia, the hope and dreams of the founding heroes who sacrificed so much. We do not want gas chambers on our precious soil. We must wake up to the danger now and deny the fascists another chance of plunging the world into darkness.

The Beijing Olympics
Art, music, sport and the United Nations should be used to promoting peace, harmony and unity.
As a Korean, Ban Ki Moon certainly has the right to boycott anything, including the Beijing Olympics, but as chief of the UN, it should be his duty to try to unify rather than take sides based on personal opinion.
To state it is not a boycott but a scheduled conflict is such a lame excuse and could even be considered an insult to people's intelligence.
Only a hypocrite would boycott a country, while still accepting it's financial contributions to partly pay for his or her own salary.
