Letter: Capitalism; forever the bad boy?

I think recession happens because people think too highly of money. If only people would think otherwise -- perhaps by playing around with currency rates -- then the value of money would be more stable and it would be easier to determine the equality of currencies throughout the global economy.

I seriously never thought it was going to be this bad. I've got worried friends, but I've been telling them it's not going to last that long. After all, the world is in a big transition, the U.S. election being a case in point.

Transition is all about change and adjustment. Even after Barack Obama steps into the White House, we will still have to allow at least three months for influential change to begin.

In spite of our efforts to recover from recent financial mishaps, I still believe capitalism will forever be the bad boy. But perhaps capitalists could be more polite in the future? Ethical business practices, perhaps?

Right now it works both ways. Money can buy you happiness, money cannot buy you happiness. It all depends on your spending goals. Recession forces us to be more disciplined and challenges our attitudes towards life: It can change the way we value money.

If only everyone realized not everything is about money. There's so much more in this life than getting depressed about being broke or fired. If we did, I am sure everything would improve.

We need to see readjusted prices in all sectors and revalued currency. We need to put a stop to capitalism and invest in another system of trading that doesn't require much monetary involvement.

But most importantly we need to believe that in this life many things are far more precious than that which money can buy. If we do, not even a recession will bring us down.
