RI author presents Buddha statue to Dalai Lama

Spiritualist and author Anand Krishna on Monday presented a 2.5-meter-high statue of Buddha to the Dalai Lama as a token of the spiritual and cultural ties between Indonesia and Tibet.

The statue, made of the same materials used to build the ninth-century Borobudur Temple in Central Java, will be housed at the Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies in Sarnath, India.

"Representing the peace-loving people of Indonesia, I salute His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama for his untiring and relentless efforts at finding peaceful solutions to protect the historical and cultural heritage of Tibet based on tolerance and respect," Anand, founder of the Anand Ashram Foundation, said in a statement sent to The Jakarta Post recently.

The Dalai Lama will inaugurate the installation of the statue at the institute between Jan. 8 and 10, said Anand Ashram Foundation chairwoman Maya Muchtar. -- JP
