ducation plays a vital role in a person's life. However, it is not easy to decide where to pursue one's education, as reaching the highest level of education can be a major problem in a developing country such as Indonesia.

UNESCO wrote in its 2009 EFA Global Monitoring Report, released at the end of 2008, that Indonesia ranked 71st out of 129 countries in achieving education for all (EFA). To improve Indonesia's rating is a big challenge for the Indonesian government in its endeavor to ensure every young adult has the opportunity to a higher education. To attract students, universities in Indonesia need to open up training programs, certifications and long distance learning, all of which require collaboration with other institutions and synergy between business and education.

Networking is not only the key word but is the key strategy for universities to find the right partners. Apart from that, universities should be cautious and observant in collaborating with certain institutions for input as well as with other universities for the use of their human resources and technology.

The market here can be quite selective and some people do not mind spending a lot on quality education. It is, therefore, not surprising that a number of international universities have formed partnerships with local universities, for example Stenden University, which is collaborating with STIE Triatma Mulya, Bali.

Stenden University is a Dutch institution with more than 100 years' experience in education. It was first established in 1904 and has developed into a global university with more than 10,000 students attending its programs at its five campuses in The Netherlands and others in South Africa, Qatar and Thailand. Its newest addition, Stenden University Bali, will open its doors in September 2009, offering a four-year International Hotel Management program identical to the highly innovative and excellently rated International Hotel Management program in the Netherlands. Stenden University Bali is a joint venture between Stenden University in The Netherlands and STIE Triatma Mulya in Bali.
