ndonesian golfer Tatiana, who finished in the top 10 at last year's Australian women's amateur golf championship at the tender age of 11, is expected to become the country's star at next week's Enjoy Jakarta World Junior Golf Championship.

"Based on her last international achievement at the Australian women's amateur tournament, Tatiana has a great chance of becoming the champion in age-group C for 11- to 12-year-olds," Christine Wiradinata, deputy chief of the organizing committee, said Friday.

Just as in the previous year, 144 junior golfers from 23 countries across the five continents of Asia, Australia, Africa, America and Europe will participate in the championship, which will run from June 1 to 7 at the Damai Indah Golf Course in Bumi Serpong Damai (BSD) in Tangerang.

The tournament, which became an international event seven years ago, is split into individual and team categories.

The individual category incorporates division A for players between 15 and 17 years old, B (13-14), C (11-12) and D (under 10), while the team category consists of pairs of golfers from divisions A and B.

Among the 46 young Indonesian golfers are last year's champions in the boy's team category, Ian Andrew and Leonardus Tanuwijaya, who are expected to improve their performance in division A of the individual category.

They beat Nacha Patchana and Poom Saksansin of Thailand last year. South Africa's Monique Smit and Lara Weinstein won the girls' team category, while Indonesia's girls' teams - Made Dita/Marcella Pranovia and Lucky Sanastasya/Noviandra - finished second and third respectively.

Meanwhile, Marcella, who took part recently in the Queen Sirikit Cup ladies amateur golf tournament, and Ika Woro Palupi have been rated Indonesia's best hopefuls in division B of the girls' competition.

The championship, which started out as a local junior golf tournament in 1993, has been internationally sanctioned since 2002, with the results counted on the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of Saint Andrews, which has 130 golf organizations as members from around 120 countries.
