JAKARTA: The city administration will present awards to dedicated environmentalists at a ceremony planned for June 26.
"We want to show our appreciation of the people who have contributed to looking after Jakarta's environment," Governor Fauzi Bowo said Monday.
Peni Susanti, head of the city environment management board, said the awards would be presented at the Jakarta City Hall to people or institutions that supported smoking bans as well as environmental conservation efforts.
The award will coincide with the launch of the Green Mangrove Belt in Pantai Indah Kapuk, North Jakarta, a 320-hectare area of mangroves that will house more than 3.2 million trees. - JP
