Yovie shows off his other self

JAKARTA: His fans might know and love him for his mellow, romantic pop songs, but singer and composer Yovie Widianto has another side – one that he usually keeps hidden away.

But Thursday night he revealed all, getting jazzy in a collaborative concert at the Bentara Budaya Jakarta (BBJ).

“The Yovie Widianto Fusion Progressive Edition will reveal the jazzy side of him,” BBJ co-manager Paulina Dinartisti said, as quoted by entertainment website Kapanlagi.com on Thursday.

In the Indonesian pop music scene, Yovie is best known for nurturing his own group Kahitna and a newer version of it, Yovie and the Nuno. Less well known is his involvement in The Indonesian Harmony Orchestra.

In Thursday night’s show, he collaborated with guitarists Kadek Rihardika and Baron, as well as drummer Gerry Herb and bassist Adi Dharmawan. — JP
