AKARTA: In a move designed to accommodate its increasing batik collection and attract more visitors, the management of the Textile Museum in Central Jakarta is currently preparing to open a separate batik museum within their complex.
"We are working to complete the planning stage *for the new museum* by the end of this year," museum head Indra Riawan told reporters on Monday.
Built in the 19th century and formerly the private residence of a French national, the museum, located on Jl. KS Tubun, has around 1,800 cloth pieces from various places around the archipelago. Most of them are batik.
Indra said the management of the museum planned to renovate the museum's 300-square-meter contemporary textile gallery to accomodate the new batik museum.
However, he could not confirm when the new batik museum would open, since the museum needed to secure financial support from the city administration for the renovation work.
