Police officers trained in disaster management

AKASSAR: National Police have cooperated with the International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program (ICITAP), run by the United States Department of Justice, to train police officers in eastern Indonesia in disaster management.
Deputy head of the National Police training and security division Insp. Gen. Aryanto Budihardjo said the training had been joined by officers from western Indonesia and was applied during the West Sumatra quake in September.
Senior coordinator of ICITAP John A. Montanio added that the training was held based on a proposal from the National Police since 2006.
"Police are on duty 24 hours, seven days a week. Police are the fastest party to arrive at the scene when there is a disaster. So police should have the ability to implement emergency systems," said Montanio.
