Army, Navy, Air Force to have new chiefs

INDONESIA: The new names for the new chiefs of Indonesian Army, Navy and Air Force emerged on Saturday.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to swear in Lt. Gen. George Toisutta, Rear Admiral Agus Suhartono and Rear Marshall Imam Sufaat as the chiefs of the Army, Navy and Air Force respectively.

George will replace Gen. Agustadi Sasongko, while Agus took over the position from Marshall Tedjo Edhy Purdijatno. Imam will replace Marshall Subandrio.

The Army spokesman Brig. Gen. Christian Zebua confi rmed the reshuffl e, as reported by Detik.com. Commr. Iskandar Sitompul also confirmed the tour of duty at the Navy.

Air Vice Marshal Bambang Sulistyo meanwhile described the change at the Air Force as extraordinary. "Iman has only two stars, but he was promoted to the top position at the Air Force," he said.

There was no report about the future of the Indonesian Military (TNI) Chief Gen. Djoko Santoso. Born on Sept. 8, 1952, Djoko has held the position since Jan. 8, 2008. - JP
