Indonesia vents Japan loss with Taiwan rout at AFC U-19 event

I

ndonesia put behind its humiliation by Japan by pounding Taiwan 6-0 in a Group F AFC U-19 Championship 2010 qualifying match in Bandung, West Java, on Thursday.

The hosts, who fell 0-7 to Japan and 0-1 to Singapore in previous matches, may have justified the need for a two-year training spell in Uruguay as Syamsir Alam and Alan Martha contributed two goals each in the match held at the Jalak Harupat Stadium.

Ferdiansyah and Ferry Firmansyah scored the other two.

The match had just entered its opening ten minutes when Alan swiftly latched onto a Syamsir header to put the home side in front.

"Today, we proved that we were not intimidated by previous defeats," team manager Demis Djamaoeddin told The Jakarta Post on Thursday.

"In the first two matches, we were unable to show our best performance. We have yet to show our best today as well, but the good thing is that we played a more fluid game," he added.

"The bad result against Japan is not the end. We need four years to form a strong team," Coach Cesar Payovich Perez told Goal.com, responding to critics after Indonesia's debacle defeat against Japan.

Syamsir doubled Indonesia's lead in the 19th minute.

They did not have to wait long for another, as three minutes later Ferdiansyah joined the score sheet, capitalizing on Yang Hui-Jie's miscued anticipation of a corner kick.

Syamsir got his second goal early in the second half, following a team up with Alan, the latter also adding to his tally, nine minutes later. Ferry completed the rout on 68 minutes.

To prevent a bigger defeat, the Taiwanese team replaced goalkeeper Pan Wen-Chieh with substitute Shih Shin-An.

Evening fixtures saw Australia take on Singapore and Hong Kong take on Japan.

Japan and Australia top the standings with six points each.

The U-19 AFC qualifying stage has seven groups with the top two teams from each group advancing to the finals.

"It's difficult to predict whether we can advance to the next round as there are still eight group matches to play," said Demis, when asked about Indonesia's prospect of qualifying.
