AKARTA: City Police's mobile detective unit has arrested a man, Yohanes Benny Lotte, who pre-tended to be an Air Force officer in order to commit fraud at train stations.
The unit's head, Adj. Sr. Comr. Achmad Rivai, said the suspect, Benny, had been committing the crime since 2006.
"He usually introduced himself as an Air Force officer and showed his personnel card to his victim," Rivai said, as quoted by vivanews.com.
Benny, who is a resident of Karang Anyar, Central Java, was arrested at Beos train station, Kota, West Jakarta.
Rivai said Benny was discharged from the Air Force in 2004 and his last rank was sergeant major.
His criminal career ended when a Sukoharjo resident, Sri Hartini, reported she had been deceived by the suspect. She gave him Rp 2 million (US$210) after he said he needed money to register as a security officer for an office block.
