Your comments about the idea to move the capital city as revived by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, from overburdened Jakarta to elsewhere in this country.

I can’t wait for the capital city to be moved elsewhere. Living in Jakarta doesn’t make sense any more. Everything is unplanned and anybody can just build anything anywhere.

Not to mention the billions of dollars lost in government and business spending just because of late attendance, not only generally by staff but also to meetings.

I suggest that instead of moving our capital city, Jakarta, we would expand it to Jabodetabek (Greater Jakarta). We will spend the money which would have been used to move the capital city to build infrastructure to develop our economy.

Improve the Indonesian aircraft industry (PTDI) and the ship manufacturing company (PAL) to ensure inter-island communication.

We can’t afford to be wasteful.

I think it is better to keep Jakarta as the capital city. Jakarta is unique. It has many important historical buildings which we won’t find in another city.

The development in Jakarta is very good. Our country will waste too much money developing another city to become the new capital city.

I believe that a new administrative city should be located not in Java, or anywhere else where there are clear environmental problem from the very beginning.

Somewhere around southeast Borneo would be the most suitable place. I myself live in Java, and Java is too crowded to be a center of administration.

I think it is about time. Jakarta is extremely overcrowded. How can a government run a country when it is too busy trying to figure out an appropriate place for all the ministers to meet, or always worried about security?

The Indonesian government needs to have a fresh start and build a city using better designs for future development.

It should be a city for government administration such as Canberra, which is beautifully designed.

Jakarta as the capital city of our country is getting so overcrowded with its huge population and an unmanageable heavy traffic. Regular floods are also a big problem.

It is high time to move our capital city to a more favorable area. This new city should be well-designed with efficient zoning and provided with underground trains, monorails, wide lanes for cars, buses, motorcycles, bicycles and pedestrians.

It should be supported by a modern domestic and international airport. And, above all, the city should be designed with attractive landscaping.

The current development of communication means it is not necessary for the city to be near Jakarta. Obviously, Jakarta will remain our financial and business center.

I have to admit, however, that we can only realize this idea, when we have reached an adequate level of prosperity.
