AKARTA: Officials from the Foreign Ministry and the State Research and Technology Ministry will fly to Washington next month to renew a memorandum of understanding (MoU) regarding scientific cooperation between Indonesia and the US, an official said Thursday.
"The MoU is required as a basis for science and technology cooperation between Indonesia and the US," Nada D.S. Marsudi, the director for international research at the State Research and Technology Ministry, said.
According to Nada, both countries had an MoU from 1978 to 2002. However, the calls to renew the MoU only began in 2008.
Nada was speaking after a discussion about research cooperation programs between Indonesia and the US in Central Jakarta.
During the discussion, representatives from various universities in the country conveyed their wishes, suggestions and com-plaints on current and future cooperation, via video conference, to Indonesian and US officials and representatives.
Attending the discussion were representatives from the US Embassy, USAID and Jason Rao, the senior policy advisor from the White House's office of science and technology policy.
