AKARTA: Police released Tuesday two activists who accused President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's reelection campaign team and his son of receiving money from troubled Bank Century.
Activists from Bendera (People's Bastion of Democracy), Mustar Bona Ventura and Ferdi Semaun were arrested Monday while shopping in Jakarta and charged with defaming state officials.
Jakarta Police spokesman Snr. Adj. Comr Daniel Tifa Ona said the police released them because they were charged under provisions of the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum punishment of less than five years in prison.
"The Criminal Code stipulates that suspects are arrested if they face a prison sentence of more than five years," Daniel said.
