AKARTA: The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) on Thursday awarded 824 blood donors for voluntarily having their blood drawn at least 100 times each.
The donors received Satyalancana social service awards, which were handed over to them by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in an award ceremony in Jakarta.
Former vice president Jusuf Kalla, who is chairman of the PMI, said this meant each donor had donated at least 30 liters of blood to the PMI in the past 25 years.
He said East Java had contributed the most among donors, with 401 awardees from the province; followed by Jakarta with 220 and West Java with 90. Of the donors, the majority were men (724).
