ANDUNG, West Java: Seven provinces in Java and Bali have urged the government to strengthen its commitment to complete the Trans Java and Southern Java highway projects to maintain and improve contributions to the gross regional product.
The region contributes 62 percent nationally.
The joint agreement was signed by the local heads of the Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) branches in seven provinces during a meeting in Bandung on Monday.
The planned 1,482-kilometer Trans Java freeway would stretch from Jakarta, encompassing Cikampek, Cirebon, Semarang, Surabaya and Banyuwangi and would cost Rp 50 trillion.
The southern Java freeway, would span 1,538 km and would run from Banten to Banyuwangi in East Java. — JP
