Uber Cup old timers support team from afar

JAKARTA: About 70 female badminton players gathered here Thursday for a reunion and to show their support to the national Uber Cup team, who eventually lost out to defending-champions China in the semifinals in Kuala Lumpur.

"It's not easy to gather the players from the *old generation' to the active ones," one of the organizers Susi Susanti, the 1992 Olympics champion, said.

"We hope the juniors can learn something from the seniors through the reunion."

Among the attendants were co-organizer Elizabeth Latif, All-England winners Retno Kustiyah and Verawati Fadjrin, and 2000 Olympics silver medalist Minarti Timur.
