Your comments on the plan of the Jakarta city government to prohibit smoking inside all air-conditioned buildings in the capital.

Yes, I agree, but I hope it can be done with realistic punishments, such as affordable fines or social work. If it is not, then it could emerge as another problem: bribery.

The smoking ban inside buildings is extremely welcome and long overdue. I respect that some people choose to smoke - I choose not to smoke and ask smokers to respect my choice. I should not have to share their poisonous air.

A great number people have been smoking for a long time. However, not many of them realize the negative impact of it toward the environment, which is now getting worse and worse. Pak Fauzi Bowo is a governor full of courage to ban this "popular" habit. He should be prepared to fight tooth and nail against the nicotine-addicted smokers. Never back down, Pak Fauzi.
