AKARTA: South Jakarta Police announced Monday they had arrested another suspect in the murder case of a Japanese couple at their residence in Rawa Lele area, Jombang, in Tangerang on Thursday.
South Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Gatot Eddy Pramono said Monday the suspect, Iwan Iriawan, 18, had been arrested at his grandmother’s house in Cipanas, Cianjur, West Java, a day earlier.
“Both Iwan and Cecep [another suspect who was arrested earlier] actually planned to rob the house of their former employer. That’s why they brought a knife along with them,” Gatot said.
Neighbors found on Thursday night Japanese expatriate Yasuo Hara, 69, and his wife Mizue Hara, 67, dead with stab wounds after they apprehended one of the suspects, who the police identified as Abdullah Cecep, 21.
Cecep worked for the foreign couple as a gardener until his dismissal a week before the murder.
Cecep admitted he had been the one who had set up the robbery plan since he was disgruntled after being fired only one month after he worked for the family. — JP
