The American went too far. Disconnecting the loudspeaker, of course, would spark anger among the villagers, especially during Ramadan when many people recite the Koran.
Both groups should endeavor to control their emotions.
Mosques should only be allowed to air Koran recitals until 10 p.m.

I think he made a very big mistake. Even though he was disturbed (by the noise from the loudspeaker), he should have shown more respect. This is not his country and should have respected the locals.

It’s amazing how this person can be so ignorant, showing zero knowledge or tolerance.

This US citizen, Luke Gregory Lloyd, should not have done such a shameful deed, disconnecting the mosque’s loudspeaker in Lombok. As a foreigner he should respect Muslims, the majority religion in Indonesia to make his stay comfortable and peaceful.
Perhaps he was annoyed by the loud recitals of the Holy Koran but there were alternative places he could have moved to instead of unplugging the cable without any compromise that made the locals angry.
He has broken the blasphemy law and will be sent to prison for five years if found guilty.
Moreover, his visa expired in 2006, so he also faces deportation.
