BATAM: Heavy rains cleared Batam on Friday of the choking haze sent by forest fires in neighboring Riau on the Sumatran mainland
ATAM: Heavy rains cleared Batam on Friday of the choking haze sent by forest fires in neighboring Riau on the Sumatran mainland.
The haze had reduced visibility from 10,000 meters to 6,000 meters at Hang Nadim International Airport on Wednesday.
“The hazard level remains significant, but the incoming haze has not disrupted flights so far,” Batam Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) office chief Joko Siswanto said.
The rains have also significantly curbed the spread of hot spots, which have fallen from 202 on Wednesday to only eight, two of which were in Malaysia. — JP
