Letter: Governing by distraction

Haven’t you noticed how distracting our news has been over the last two or three years?

Arguments over religion, pornography, corruption trials, Bank Century, Malaysia trying to steal Indonesian culture and our national “dignity”. Our country is under attack. Who is a “hero” and who is not? Who cries crocodile tears over land reform while arguing against the evils of pornography and the righteousness of religion? Indonesians are worked up.

A magician attempting an amazing disappearing act will go to considerable lengths to distract your eyes from what the other hand is doing. Watch out, Indonesia! There has never been as much distraction as there is going on now. Before you can blink, you may find your entire country has disappeared.
