hough the vision correcting Lasik procedure is now so popular, many people have reservations about eye laser surgery. Some hospitals have set measures to help eliminate these reservations.

Many people are tired of wearing glasses or contact lenses and they dream of having normal vision by undergoing the more popular Lasik surgery.

However, as most people understand that the eyes are one of the most important organs in the human body, and that sight is so vital for daily activities; thus allowing even a highly-experienced ophthalmologist perform Lasik procedure on their eyes is worrying for some.

The prospective patients will be willing to undergo the procedure, however, when they educate themselves about Lasik, and overcome their phobia about surgery.

The term Lasik is an abbreviation for Laser Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis. Lasik is a procedure that changes the shape of the cornea using excimer laser rays.

This procedure corrects eyesight from refractions such as myopia, hyper myopia and astigmatism. Lasik vision is also used in treatment of farsightedness and short sightedness.

Surgery for the correction of myopia has become very popular in the last two decades since it is now safer and much more predictable. It has freed many people from their eyeglasses and contact lenses, allowing them to perform everyday activities and sports without worrying about their vision.

In Indonesia, Lasik surgery was introduced in the 1990s. In Jakarta, there are a number of hospitals and clinics offering this procedure, for example the Jakarta Eye Center (JEC), Klinik Mata Nusantara and I-Care Lasik. The number of patients undergoing surgery is also getting higher.

Nonetheless, many are still concerned about the possible pain they will suffer during and after the procedure. They are also worried about possible blindness, infection and negative side effects. It is also true that some are worried about the cost.

However, Lasik is safe when the patients are in the hands of good surgeons, and they are eligible for the procedure.

The clinics offering Lasik surgery also operate sophisticated, latest generation equipment for patients’ safety and peace of mind.

Among the technologies applied at the clinics in Jakarta are the Z-Lasik, an advanced refractive procedure available that corrects sight by gently reshaping the cornea and changing the focusing ability of the eye, while the advanced IntraLase Femtosecond Laser (iFS) is a way to correct eyesight without a single cut. The Femtosecond laser technology provides a more precise, predictable method for creating the corneal flap.

Good hands are indeed another important key in eye care and treatment. The Jakarta Eye Center (JEC), for example, tries to help prospective patients with information on its Lasik programs. The clinic which offers Z-Lasik and iFS Lasik hires surgeons who have treated more than 20,000 Lasik patients since 1997.

In terms of payment, JEC also offers an easy payment system, in which patients are able to pay in installments at zero interest rate for up to 12 months.

With such advanced technology and qualified ophthalmologists, patients’ minds will be at rest about the procedure. By overcoming their phobia about Lasik they will soon be free from their clumsy glasses.
