AKARTA: State-owned bank PT Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI) plans to enter the tourism sector by fi nancing the development of tourism infrastructure. BNI banking business director Krishna Suparto said Monday that the fi rst project would be the development of an integrated hotel in Bali.
“We prepare around Rp 450 billion [US$50.4 million] to Rp 500 billion for the first phase of the project and will gradually distribute the funds in the near future,” he said as quoted by detikfi nance.com.
Beside the tourism sector, Krishna added, BNI would also invest in the energy sector, especially in the oil and gas sector, due to the wide opportunities it presented. “Other infrastructure projects, which are still in the pipeline and will soon be realized, are a project with [state owned telecommunications company] Telkom and a 10,000-megawatt project with [state-owned power company] PLN,” he explained.
Khrisna said that as of September, BNI invested Rp 10 trillion in the tourism and energy sectors.
On the same day, BNI retail and consumer director Darmadi Sutanto said that BNI planned to add another Rp 500 billion to Rp 600 billion to the total consumer credit by the end of 2010 although the sector had exceeded the targeted growth of 20 percent. — JP
