Poll rerun after money politics finding

M

EDAN: The Tanjung Balai poll was rerun Monday after a two month postponing due to lack of funds.

The poll was repeated following a Constitutional Court ruling that the first phase poll had been marred with money politics charged against candidate Eka Hadi Sucipto. Eka, who is running for the mayoral post with candidate deputy Afrizal Zulkarnain, is son of incumbent mayor Hadi Sutrisno.

Tanjung Bali Elections Commission (KPUD) announced that the rerun listed 65,536 eligible voters in 217 ballot booths, scattered across 17 subdistricts.

KPUD head Firmansyah complained of a low turnout of voters. “The number of voters only reached 50 percent,” he said. — JP
