everal JFS members are also known as frequent runners in several prestigious Big City Marathons all over the world, from Singapore, Hong Kong, Sydney to Berlin and New York.

Two of the most popular events among many JFS core members are The North Face 100 kilometer cross-country team race in October and Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (42 kilometers) in December. Normally a group of JFS runners, consisting of 10 to 15 people, participate in each.

“These marathons provide one of the main focal points of our running year and a goal for some specific distance training as a group in the lead up,” says Martin.

As part of his rigorous preparation for several marathons a year, Jacky claims these long distance trainings are highly effective. Through its activities, JFS encourages runners to set personal targets each year. “It is one of the coolest things that makes JFS tick,” says Jacky, who races in many Marathons across Asia (Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Mumbai and Hong Kong) every year.

This positive support certainly goes above and beyond. When Barbara moved to Singapore in 2009, she welcomed all JFS members who took part in Singapore Marathon with more than open arms. She picked them up at the airport and had prepared all their necessities for the race.

But the highlight of this great camaraderie was the sponsorship given by JFS to one of its best runners, Maridi, in which JFS covered all his expenses for the Singapore Marathon. “This kind of opportunity offers a world class experience for our best runners, and it definitely boosts our spirit to improve ourselves,” Jacky said.

As Francesca proudly states, “Being part of the group will motivate you to run better and faster. Most importantly, it’s always nice to have someone who shares the same hobby and to exchange valuable knowledge.”
