he Pekanbaru District Court on Thursday sentenced former Riau National Family Planning Coordinating Board (BKKBN) head and treasurer Amrlis Alamsyah and Hotna Sari to a year in prison for graft.
Presiding judge Minanoer Rachmah said both defendants had been proven guilty of violating the corruption law.
The panel of judges also required each of them to pay Rp 50 million (US$5,550) in fines or another two months in prison.
The judges did not require them to return the ill-gotten wealth to the state despite being proven guilty.
“They caused the state a loss of Rp 125.73 million, but the funds have been returned to police investigators,” said Minanoer. The crime took place in 2005 when the central government allocated Rp 12.3 billion for a family planning program in 11 BKKBN working units in Riau.
