akarta: Defending champions India XI clinched a thriller against Rebels in an Apple Coal JCA League 2010-2011 match at the Cibubur cricket ground over the weekend.

India XI came back from a precarious 40 for 5 to score 157 for 9 to clinch an improbable single wicket victory over Rebels. Subhash Modgil and Gaurav Pathak, who each scored 44 runs, were instrumental in the revival, clawing back India XI’s run tally after half of their team had been played out after 12 overs.

Electing to bat first, Rebels scored an imposing 154 for 7 in 35 overs, with Scott Masson leading the scoring with 47 runs followed by veteran Robert Baldwin with 32. Rebels had found their progress stifled by bowlers Kishore Gunwani (3 for 20) and Dhiraj Nagpal (2 for 19), and could score only 88 runs in 24 overs, before picking up their run rate in the final 11 overs. For Rebels, Matt Hoare picked up 3 wickets and Eki Antaria 2 wickets.

In another match at Karawaci, WISCI thrashed Challengers in a one sided match, romping home by 8 wickets. Put in to bat, Challengers crumbled to 103 all out against some hostile bowling from Rahil Taneja (4 for 16) and Rob Krauss (3 for 3). Mahadevan Ganeshi made 33 runs.

In reply, WISCI achieved their victory target in just 14 overs. JP Leriche seemed to be in a hurry to finish the match as he blasted a quick-fire unbeaten 57 runs. WISCI is the only unbeaten team in the tournament and is at the top of the table with 72 points, with six straight wins. — JP
