JAKARTA: Family members of Mohammad Hatta suspected that the robbery in the former residence of the country’s first vice president was an inside job
AKARTA: Family members of Mohammad Hatta suspected that the robbery in the former residence of the country’s first vice president was an inside job.
Daughter of Hatta, Meutia, said that suspects responsible for the disappearance of a Rp 6 billion painting “Cah Angon dan Kebo” (Shepherd and Buffalo) might be domestic helpers.
“I believe this is an inside job, people here collaborating with outsiders. We notice that some domestic helpers come and go freely,” Meutia was quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
Meutia said that in 2007, the Hatta family fired a maid who was suspected of stealing silver jewelry in the house.
Meutia’s husband Sri Edhi Swasono, however, alleged that the suspected domestic helpers could only be accomplice to a gang.
The Hatta family filed a report to the police on Dec. 27 on a burglary case. The family reported that the painting, drawn by renown artist Basoeki Abdullah, had gone missing from Hatta’s former official residence on Jl. Diponegoro in Central Jakarta. — JP
