“Yes, it was me. I received an email, and there was a link, but it turned out to be one of those movies,” the clearly embarrassed legislator said in an effort to defended his actions before journalists after photographers caught him red-handed watching a porn clip on his tablet computer while attending a House plenary session on Thursday.
Arifinto, who serves in the House of Representatives’ Commission V on transportation affairs, said he was caught on camera. He even said the incident was intentionally engineered by certain parties to tarnish his image and that of his party.
“I am afraid I was photographed as a trap against me aimed at killing [my political career] even though I never saw the clip,” he said.
However, the photographer who captured the moment insists he has strong evidence that Arifinto, a legislator from the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), intentionally searched for the porn clip and did not stumble upon it by chance as Arifinto insists. He also denies being part of a plot against the politician.
Your comments:
I can’t stop laughing at the typical government hypocrisy. Put him in Ariel’s [a pop star jailed for pornography] place. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.
How about a public caning? After all, isn’t that what he supports?

And they still have the gall to insist on having that new building?
So they can watch more of the same stuff?

Arifinto should be dismissed from the House. He is doing nothing to improve politics and is wasting time and money watching porn.
Since most members of the House act liked spoiled little children, phones should be banned from plenary sessions until members grow up and show that they are wise and mature.

But I don’t understand. I thought Communications and Information Technology Minister Tifatul said he had already eliminated all porn from the reaches of Indonesians on the Internet. He promised! And of course him being a technology expert I thought we could trust him.

He denies watching the film, but it’s obvious he did.

It started with an attempt to fool the public with the new building construction project, monkey business and later accomplished with porn presentation.

Just tell him to bring the laptop along. Since everybody knows not to open attachments from unknown senders, he most likely also does not now how to securely remove files.

Many people wish for the repeal of the undemocratic, intrusive and frankly hypocritically silly pornography laws, but at the same time wish to see them enforced in this case.
To prosecute this man under those draconian laws will only give them more respectability and influence. Instead, use this case to show how unworkable they are — as is any law that seeks to look into men’s hearts and legislate private and public morality.
Seeking revenge only indicates that a lot of liberals are being thrown off their horses by their own anger. Stay in the saddle and fight!
Work to repeal unjust laws that infringe on people’s rights — don’t demand they be enforced when someone who backed them is caught out just to get even.

I have no problems with people viewing pornography in the privacy of one’s own home. But this is really too much!

He deserves a minimum of 5 years in prison. Let’s see now if there is real justice in Indonesia.
