AKARTA: Indonesia’s mixed doubles specialist Vita Marissa, who recently re-dueted with former world number one doubles specialist Nova Widianto, is facing a tough opening call at the upcoming Indonesia Open Superseries Premier from June 21-26 in Jakarta.
Unseeded in the event and currently climbing to world number 40, Vita and Nova, who are also aiming to collect points for the London Olympics, will have to challenge world top and the tournament’s favorite seed Zhang Nan and Zhao of China.
“We still have to adjust to each other after seven years [of vacuum]. It is not so easy,” said Vita recently.
Meanwhile, world number seven men’s duo Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan (back from his injury), is expected to past unseeded Polish pair Adam Swalina and Michael Logosz in the opener. Nonethless, they are likely to have a quarterfinals clash against top seed Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen of Denmark.
In the men’s singles, hoping to break his six homeground winning records, world number three Taufik Hidayat, will likely have an early walk in the park as he will meet a qualifier player in the opener.
If he breezes through either Bao Chun Lai of China or Rajiv Ouseph of England in the second round, Taufik will face his best nemesis fifth seed Peter Gade of Denmark as early as the quarterfinals. — JP
