AKARTA: Responding to the rape of a 19-year-old girl inside a Central Jakarta karaoke bar, the Jakarta Police called on karaoke bar managers in the city to mount closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in their lounges to prevent such incidents.
“CCTV is important so management can see if people are involved in sexual misconduct,” Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Baharudin Djafar told reporters on Wednesday.
Baharudin also said that members of the Jakarta Police would step up their monitoring of karaoke bars in Jakarta.
Earlier this week, the Central Jakarta Police arrested a 22-year-old man, identified as Kiki, for allegedly raping a teenage girl in the toilet of a karaoke lounge at Senayan City shopping mall in Central Jakarta.
Kiki, who was arrested at his home in Cibubur, East Jakarta, was suspected of raping the 19-year-old girl after allegedly intoxicating her with alcoholic drinks during a karaoke session.
